Introducing.... Jon Lewis!
Jon Lewis is a Strayos Star, one of our exceptional employees dedicated to making your experience with Strayos amazing. Jon is our Solutions Engineer and is based in our Buffalo, New York office.
We sat down with Jon to learn a little more about him so we could share it with you!
What interested you about Strayos? Why did you apply?
I was interested to expand on the current software offerings and work flows for the mining industry. I like the idea of directly contributing to the end product rather than being a cog in a machine.
Where did you grow up? What do you miss/love about it?
I grew up in Southern Kentucky, I love all the nature and trees that surrounded me. Most of my family is out there, so I miss them mainly.
Tour de Coal event kayaking the Coal River in West Virginia
What is something you've worked on for Strayos that a customer would recognize and whats a hidden gem- something awesome, that customers may not know about.
I would say a majority of my contributions are in the pipeline for larger updates, but the main thing would be the "enable AI verification" button on the automated GCP tagging.
If you were stuck on a deserted island, what 3 things would you bring? Why?
Knife, parachute cord, reflective tarp. Probably the most versatile survival items out there.
What has been your favorite part about working with Strayos?
Getting to do a lot of different things, I could be writing a blog post one minute, talking with a customer the next, and then meeting with the team about new ideas to improve the platform afterwards.
Whats one thing you wish employees thinking about joining Strayos should know?
It's does not have that corporate rigidity of "that's not my job, you handle it". You have to be able to adapt and willing to learn on your own, I think if you have the attitude that you want to contribute to the company and not just yourself, you'll have a great time.
You can tell a lot about a person by their shoes. Here's how Jon's look after loading a blast at a coal mine in southern West Virginia.
If you were a vegetable, what vegetable would you be and why?
Broccoli, mainly because I think it has some of the greatest benefits of the vegetables culinary wise and even nutritionally.
What are you working on right now?
Creating educational content for our users including Strayos Academy, a course on how to maximize the benefits users can get from our platform and contributing to the development of additional modules to better serve the blasters and miners.
If working at Strayos was a movie, what would it's genre be? and why should we watch it?
I think Sci Fi just because the nature of the technology of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The main thing is I can easily just brainstorm ideas of how Strayos can integrate into so many different applications just through the AI side. You should watch it because it would be "2001: A Space Odyssey" meets the mining industry!
Whats on your wish list for the next 5 years of working at Strayos?
Development of additional strong features for the platform.
Tell us something personal about you! What are your hobbies? Do you have any guilty pleasures? What inspires you?
My hobbies include working out, video games, and trying new things! A guilty pleasure would be any type of "cookies and cream" sweets. I am inspired by hardworking people that aren't afraid to get their hands dirty to get the work done.
