Product Spotlight: Highwall Compliance
Mines are planned for safety and compliance. However, deviations occur as sites evolve over time. Monitoring actual site conditions and accounting for them in daily operations planning is critical for safety and compliance. Mines need to periodically conduct a pit analysis, to quantify the real world version of their site. Once the true dimensions of the mine as it exists are understood, mines can adjust their operations to ensure safety and compliance, check out our blog: Improve Safety and Compliance with AI Powered Pit Analysis to learn more about when reconciliations are necessary.
Strayos' Highwall Compliance AI allows for fast & easy issue identification and visualization.

Geometric Reconciliations
The geometric reconciliation of mining development is the quantification of the differences between the real state of a mine site’s slopes, banks, and berms, among others, and its original design. Mines are designed to operate at certain optimal specifications. The pit slope is designed to balance the risks of slope failure and ore sterilization. Haul road grades are designed for efficiency and safety, berms and catch benches are designed to meet compliance requirements and ensure site safety. But over time, small discrepancies in the development of the site can begin to accumulate rendering many of those optimally designed parameters null.
That’s why regular geometric reconciliations are critical to meeting safety, production, and operating cost targets.
Highwall Compliance is good for more than just Site Analyses, it can also be used to quality check drilling & blasting operations.
Pit Compliance Checks
Another critical measurement of the real world version of a mine site or quarry is the Pit Compliance check. Similar to, and often used interchangeably with, Geometric Reconciliations. A compliance Check can have a design plan or not to check against.
Without a design plan, a Pit Compliance Check looks at the pit itself and is analyzed to see if the current state of the pit is within certain specifications. For example, are the haul roads between 7 & 11% grade? Are the berms all axle height?
You may not always need to compare a site to its original design plan, but it is still critical to maintain safety, production, and operating costs by ensuring that the pit continues to fall within operation specific targets.
Geometric Reconciliations & Pit Compliance Made Easy
With Strayos, both Geometric Reconciliations and Pit Compliance Checks can be done automatically every time you fly your drone. This automation saves a significant amount of time and money. You no longer need to stop operations or put people on site to conduct measurements, now you can use the data you are already collecting.
Starting with a 3D model and adding a Mine Plan, Strayos provides its users with a powerful pit compliance tool that generates areas of Crest Loss, Toe Flare, Over Break, and Under Break per Designed conditions. To make it even better, reporting metrics showcase the results based on thresholds set by the user to measure compliant fields.
Beyond customizable heatmaps on 3D models, Strayos automatically generates a variety of charts, graphs, and reports to display data. With all the metrics that can be measured from the high wall compliance tools offered by Strayos, reporting areas can segment data into specified sections, which allow users to view additional graphs and visuals for their areas of interest.
Benefits of Pit Compliance Checks?
- Highlight areas of non-compliance, allowing engineers to review operations & identify issues
- Quantify changes carried out in operations
- Provide data for future pit designs
- Maintain safe working conditions
By leveraging the data captured in the mine, pit compliance adds valuable input to operational decisions and current workflows.
The Strayos platform offers a user-friendly interface, allowing users to easily visualize and analyze areas of non-compliance. By identifying and addressing these areas, mining companies can optimize their operations, improve safety, and reduce costs. With the automated pit compliance tool provided by Strayos, mining companies can ensure that their operations align with the original design or operate within certain parameters leading to more efficient and profitable mining process.
