Intern Spotlight - Shamik Dutta Majumdar
Strayos is proud to introduce... Shamik Majumdar!
Shamik is one of our star interns studying Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and a minor in Communication at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Originally from New Delhi, India, Shamik made the harrowing decision to travel across the world to study in the US and now he's taken another big leap and joined an Artificial Intelligence for Mining Company- Strayos.
We sat down with Shamik to learn a little more about the man behind the brand-new Strayos Instagram account...
What inspired you to study what you are studying?
I have always been interested in learning about the fundamentals of how a business operates and the strategies implemented for growth. I chose Marketing as a concentration because of the creativity aspect that it brings to business as well as the technological aspect which involves analytics to understand consumer behavior through data. I get really fascinated to see the impact of marketing on consumer's perception of a business. I find the whole process of setting a plan and strategies to take action very exciting.
I am always curious to learn more about digital marketing which involves copywriting, search engine optimization, email campaigns, and content creation and I believe that I can leverage these skills in business development.
What interested you about Strayos? Why did you apply?
I heard about Strayos through mutual connections within my college. I started to become interested in the company when I did some research and found out about the opportunities available. Strayos operates in the mining and blasting industry and uses AI to offer solutions for blast optimization and increased safety for mine workers. I found the mission and vision of the company very intriguing and wanted to learn more about how the company works. Plus I thought that working for a company like Strayos could be a golden opportunity for me to learn crucial work skills and implement my own skills for the best interests of the company.
It is truly one of the most innovative companies within the WNY startup community and with its rapid growth, the sky's the limit for Strayos. I was welcomed with a lot of grace and I couldn't be more grateful for this internship and for the team.
What do you want to do in the future?
Since I am a business major with a concentration in marketing at the University at Buffalo, I would like to pursue a career in marketing, focusing on and learning more about SEO optimization, content creation, email marketing, sales, and copywriting. I have always been curious about how a company sets its marketing objectives to align with its mission and implement strategies to help boost brand awareness and achieve high conversion rates.
How do you see your time at Strayos contributing to your plans? What do you hope to accomplish during your time with us?
With Strayos I was able to learn so many different things that have helped me grasp a better idea about myself and how a company operates on a day to day basis. I was able to work on a different array of projects which were insightful, creative and informative. What made the experience even better was how flexible the company is with its employees and the overall work environment. It made the freedom of working easy and fun. Additionally, I was given a lot of creative freedom with the social media projects that I worked on where I created content that was published online on multiple social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, Instagram and Linkedin.
What are you working on right now?
I am currently working on writing articles for Strayos that will be published on Linkedin. With the help of my supervisor, Kimberly Sahu, and other team members like Elijah Williams and Daniel Castro, I was able to finish a bunch of different articles and webinar summaries which were incredibly insightful.
I am also working on creating more content for increased social engagement on Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook.
Tell us something personal about you!
Growing up, I have lived in different countries like India, Vietnam, and Thailand and now I am currently based in the United States pursuing my undergrad degree. One of my favorite hobbies is editing videos, playing the drums, and watching movies. I have been making Youtube videos for more than 5 years and I like being creative in the projects I work on.
